About Amanda Malachesky
FNLP, FDN-P, CINHC, CMTHow I turned the lemons of my own chronic illness into lemonade, and became a compassionate guide to help people through the health wilderness…
Hi, I’m Amanda and I can help you become powerfully fluent in the unique language of your body, so you can resolve your complex gut and allergy challenges at the root cause level. Allow me to tell you a little of my story….
I’ve always been guided by an unseen hand and my inner compass.
I challenge myself to remain open to this guidance. I especially like to invite it when I wander the stacks of a bookstore, asking myself, “What is the information I most need to find now?”
Twenty years ago, I randomly chose a book off the shelf in a Barnes & Noble store while visiting family.
It turned out her body had become toxic, and she healed when she met a doctor who could help her unravel her case.
Her story moved me because it seemed so unfair: in her darkest moment, no one believed that her illness was real, when she KNEW that something defineable wasn’t right, even if no one else could see it.
I didn’t know then that I would be called to face this same challenge 20 years later, and that this challenge would define my future career. As a result of reading this book, I adopted an almost exclusively organic diet.
When my own mysterious and complex health problems emerged in my late 30s, I ALSO knew there was something really wrong, but my doctor couldn’t figure out what, except for a label that only marginally explained the daily discomfort and anxiety I was experiencing.
As a person with a Master’s Degree in complex systems theory, I wasn’t interested in temporary, topical, or symptomatic solutions.
I didn’t want to waste my efforts if I could design a remedy that removed the need for future effort.
I wanted a root-cause resolution solution. A design solution.
Opening to guidance provided yet another answer…
Maybe like you, I was seduced by seemingly simple, easy, quick solutions.
I tried any protocol I could get my hands on, in isolation or in combination, but they didn’t really work.
Though I found that diet and supplements are important and DID help, it wasn’t enough. It turns out, true health requires something deeper and bigger than protocols. It requires the right approach.
Another nudge of providence, coincidence, or divine guidance—call it what you will—led me to Functional Nutrition.
An ad in the sidebar of a magazine on the rack at my local food coop asked me:
“Do you want to be a health detective?”
Every landmark change in my life has presented me with a choice:
Do I accept this gift, this sign-post in my path, and take a leap?
Or do I ignore it, and keep going how it’s always been?
Sign post. Key life choice.
A deep, soul-defining “YES.”
Answering the call to train in Functional Nutrition provided me with the answers I had been seeking for many years.
I uncovered the root causes of my endometriosis diagnosis and my many gut and food allergy symptoms by using the right strategy. I found many layers of dysfunction, in my gut, my hormones, and immune system, as well as genetic limitations that were keeping my body unable to balance.
I found the trail out of the wilderness, and learned what I needed to do to heal.
But I also found the path I was always meant to take:
to walk with people like myself, maybe like you, who are struggling with self-doubt and fear for their future health, and to guide them down the road to profound self-knowledge, relationship, and trust in their own body.
I’m now on a mission to help 5,000 people become their own gut health heroes by 2023.
You see, through all my health challenges, no one taught me how to listen powerfully and deeply to my body, to learn its songs and frequencies, habits, and limits so that I could dance in harmony with its needs.
Once I experienced Functional care, I knew this was the answer I’d been waiting for.
I’ve been personally trained by renowned Functional Nutritionist Andrea Nakayama, as a Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner;
as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner by Reed Davis, CNT;
and as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach by the top functional and integrative health experts in the field.
I am an expert at helping people dig through the details of their case to help them understand what is happening, and what they can do to remedy it.
I am profoundly curious, about my clients, their situation, and am always pursuing new training to diversify my knowledge.
I came to this work with nearly 20 years experience as a holistic Certified Massage Therapist.
I also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Agroecology and Sustainable Agriculture from UC Santa Cruz, and a Master of Arts in Ecological Design from Prescott College. So yeah, you could say I’m a bit of a nerd!

A little about me personally…
I live in a remote corner of paradise, on California’s Lost Coast with my husband and two kids.
We have purposefully chosen a life close to the land and far from the city, designed and built our own passive-solar home, and thrive in the presence of a rare, connected community.
When I’m not coaching, I love to patiently delight in the beauty and study of natural history. I’m most happy with a pair of binoculars in the forest, by a creek, listening to and learning about birds.
You also might find me singing and playing guitar or mandolin in a band…
